HOMECOMING
FESTIVAL
Every year on the 4th Friday and
Saturday of August, we have our
annual Homecoming Festival. The
festival is held in Park #1 on
County Road. Our activities begin at
6:00 p.m. with a presentation by Troop
429 Boy Scouts of America and the
Festus Squadron of the Civil Air
Patrol. Our Friday night activities are
family based, with lots of fun
activities in the carnival midway and
lots of food available from the many vendors
on site. We also have a "Baby Crawling
Contest" and a "Pie Baking
Contest". The
music act for Friday night this
year will be Chris Blair. Chris Blair
and his band will play from 7:00 - 10:00
p.m. when we end activities.
Then on Saturday morning
at 11:00 a.m. things get fired up again
with lots of food vendors, carnival
rides, carnival midway and local acts
performing on the stage. We have local
acts playing every half hour until
around 4:00 p.m. when the stage turners
over to our professional acts.
This year the band Shiloh and Bentler
will be playing from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
followed by Butch Wax and the Hollywoods
from 6:30 - 10:00 p.m. The festival ends on Saturday night at
10:00 p.m. with a big fireworks
display. During the day Saturday we
have special games available with cash
prizes for the winners. Games such as
the "Hoola-Hoop Contest", "Pumpkin Seed
Spitting Contest", "3 Legged Race" and "Sack
Race".
Saturday we
also have lots of local and out of area
crafters available with lots of cool
crafts for sale. Also all day Friday
and Saturday we have a raffle
available. Each ticket is $1.00 each or
6 tickets for $5.00. Prizes are drawn
each hour, so the more tickets you
purchase, the more you can win. All
prizes have been donated by local
businesses as a way to help our city
parks. All money raised by the festival
is added to the Parks budget to support
the four city parks.
This
year the Homecoming Festival will also
feature a Classic Car Show starting at
noon on Saturday.
CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES
Every
year the City of Pevely has two great
Christmas activities. The first is our
annual Christmas Parade. The parade is
always held the first Thursday following
Thanksgiving. Every year the parade
has a "theme". Last year the theme was
"Visions of Sugar Plums". We use the
theme to judge the float entries for
1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. These
floats receive a cash prize between
$200.00 and $100.00. All parade
participants are encouraged to throw
candy to the many children that line the
parade route.
The route
for our parade begins on Weier Road, the
service road on the west side of
Interstate 55, we travel north on Weier
Rd, then turn right on Highway Z. We
continue East on Highway Z to County
Road, turning Right on County Road past
Park #1, then Left on Main Street, East
on Main to Old State Road South a short
way to Maple Drive. Left on Maple to
Highway 61/67 where the parade ends.
Anyone or
group may join the parade, all we
require is that an application be filled
out in advance so that we know who is
participating and what type of entry
they are bringing. The City of Pevely
reserves the right to refuse entry to
any float, organization, group or
individual that we feel would be
offensive to the residents of the City.
The next
Christmas activity we have is "Pictures
With Santa". This activity varies, but
we always hold the event at the gym
inside Pevely Elementary School. The
Parks Board will be present to take
pictures. The pictures come with a
small frame, mailing sleeve. The
parents are encouraged to also bring
their own cameras. All money raised is
added to the annual parks budget for the
upkeep of the City Parks.
